Have you ever wondered whether NBA players are paid or not to participate in the NBA All-Star weekend? Just in case you are wondering, the answer is yes.
The NBA All-Star games are fun, but still competitive. Many doubt that NBA players only consider the All-Star weekend as, well, a weekend. But I think (most) NBA players are very competitive – a trait that get some of them reach the All-Star status (other than basketball talent and skills, of course) while the rests are trying hard to keep their place in the roster for quite some time.
And yes, in return for their participation in the All-Star weekend, NBA players get paid a nice amount of money (well, maybe not for them especially compared with the millions they receive, but hey, 35 grand is still a nice amount of money!)
Are NBA All-Star players playing just because they were paid? I don’t know how about you, but I doubt that money is the motivation. Again, they have made a lot in their career, including from endorsements and ads, so money is not likely to be the motivation.
According to BusinessInsider.com, here are some of the player payouts in NBA All-Star:
- NBA All-Star Game – each of the players on the winning team will receive $35,000; those in the losing team will receive $15,000 each.
- NBA Rookie-Sophomore Game – the players on the winning team will receive $15,000 each; those in the losing team will get $5,000 each.
- NBA All-Star Skills Competition, including the Slam Dunk and Three-Point Shootout – 1st place: $35,000, 2nd place: $22,500, and some amount for the non-winners in the Competition.
$35,000 is still a nice amount of money, even for a LeBron.
