Will the League go bankrupt?

I’ve read many stories from the Web that talk about how NBA fares in today’s recession.

Of all, the latest news I read while browsing the Web is quite ‘enlightening’ :D

How bad does the recession hit the NBA?

Stadium attendances drop. Sponsors are trying hard to stay afloat themselves. Bad W-L records is only adding the pressure to the NBA Teams, and eventually the League.

12 NBA Teams borrows a total of $200 millions that is facilitated by the NBA, hoping that the credit would take them afloat and exist in the League. Is it a good sign or a bad sign?

Bad, bad sign. Although the L sparks confidence by releasing the multi-million dollars credit line for NBA Teams, the overall picture of this, well, is bleak and cloudy.

Even David Stern, the NBA Commissioner, indicated that, although the NBA as a business is okay this season – up one to two percents in revenue, he is concerned about the NBA future next season.

All of this will result in reshuffles around the league, where NBA Teams will renegotiate contracts with their players, leaving the goods with decent contracts and the bads with, well, less-than-stellar contracts.

What is this mean for the fans?

LeBron is still flying; C P is still dishin’; Shaq is still overpowering other – the playas are playing at their best effort, as usual.

Unfortunately, the future of the NBA is not decided by the playas and the fans only – the money will drive NBA Teams to thrive in today’s economic crisis.

Eventually, you might saw a possibility that one or two NBA Teams dropped out from the L, or at least changing hometowns.

Let’s hope for the best for our beloved NBA Teams.

As of the Magic – my fav – concern, it’s doing well and they will go far in the Playoffs and make a lot of money for the club to help it maintain its performance. Woot!
