Here is an interesting breaking news from the New York Knicks – they have just recently deal their two best scorers – Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford to clear their salary cap space for a possibility to lure LeBron James in.
The updates from Yahoo! Sports unveiled interesting facts about the current state of the New York Knicks – They deal Crawfordto Golden State for Al Harrington, and hours later, they did the same to Randolph, who is dealt to L.A. Clippers, along with Mardy Collins, for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas.
The Knicks’ primary aim: To free enough salary cap space for the summer of 2010 to pursue the talented free-agents potential – LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Randolph is scheduled to make $17.3 million and Crawford $10.1 million in 2010-11 – so, there’s A LOT of salary cap spaces freed.
The Knicks’ secondary aim: To give Marbury his much-deserved playing time.
With two main guys departing, Marbury should have the opportunity to play more, right?
Wrong.
D’Antoni, Knicks coach, explained that while waiting for the three new faces – Harrington, Thomas and Mobley – to be able to play, most likely on Tuesday, Marbury will get 30-35 minutes of game time – but not for long.
But, as Marbury is not even in Knicks plan for the future, he could be exiled to the bench again, as soon as the three new players are available.
Being the #6 on the Top 10 List of the highest salaried NBA ballers, it’s ironic that Marbury’s wish is to get the minutes he deserved (or he think he deserved).
What I think of this trade: It will actually do the Knicks good – losing their 2 best scorers and 1 rebounder in return for 3 role players will only bring the good things. To note, Tim Thomas has been working with D’Antoni before, and this will eliminate many adaptability problems.
Let’s see where the Knicks go about with this – securing playoff berth after 7 losing season streak? Um, I guess this year would be their 8th. Good luck, D’Antoni!
