Finally – we enter the All-Star break, and it’s probably early to say anything about who will win the 2010-2011 NBA Regular Season MVP Award, but here’s one of the Top 10 NBA MVP candidates that will shock some people but not me and those who value leadership and the ability in making everyone else better: Rajon Rondo.
According to NESN, the Top 10 NBA MVP candidates are as follow (not in particular order):
- Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics)
- Manu Ginobili (San Antonio Spurs)
- Amar’e Stoudemire (New York Knicks)
- Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder)
- Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers)
- Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls)
- Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic)
- Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets)
- Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks)
- LeBron James (Miami Heat)
Some years ago, Rondo was overlooked. Many consider him as a defender; he could steal the ball, but not many acknowledge his skill in running offense for the team he plays for.
Once given the opportunity, Rajon Rondo answers many critics by playing an excellent role as playmaker – a role that finally earn him leadership position for Boston Celtics.
For a star-studded team, such as the Celtics, running an offense for the team is challenging. Many will demand their share for the ball, and Rondo must fulfill such demand in every possession. He succeed so far, and the future looks bright.
OK – Rajon Rondo is a bricklayer from the free throw line, but he overcome his weakness with great court vision, passing ability and defensive awareness.
Some stats to justify the selection: Rondo is #1 in the L for assists per game and triple-double, and #3 in steals per game. Don’t forget the intangibles – offensive awareness, defensive awareness and leadership.
So, to all Rondo fans – let’s support him to get the NBA MVP Award this year; that would be great for both fans and naysayers.
Rondo: An All-star, Celtics leader, stats leader (assists and steals) – an NBA MVP Award and NBA Champ ring would be the next best. addition.
