The Timberwolves Fire Coach Wittman, McHale Takes The Hot Seat: Good Luck!

Timberwolves

Another coach fired – Randy Wittman, the former coach of Minnesota Timberwolves join the elite unemployed coach – P.J. Carlesimo (Oklahoma City Thunder), Eddie Jordan (Washington Wizards) and Sam Mitchell (Toronto Raptors).

The newsflashes from NBA.com explains the details of this most recent personnel changes.

They are fired for different reason, but I think Randy’s case is just another “wrong coach, wrong team situation, at the wrong time” case – It has been 2 seasons after Kevin Garnett left the Wolves for Boston (and then later rakes in NBA Champs 2008 Title), and the Wolves still failing to achieve .500, especially this season’s 4-15 record.

To add to the ‘wrongdoings’ in team regeneration, including the trade of Ricky Davis, the sign up of Mike Miller, and others. Randy Foye? Aw, come on… I wish he was THAT good, but he isn’t!

The best thing happening to the Wolves is probably Al Jefferson and Kevin Love. But it’s not enough to help the Wolves… and Randy Wittman.

Kevin McHale, again, takes the coaching position – hopefully he could work magic like the last time he did the coaching stint – He went 19-12 in the final 31 games of the 2004-05 NBA season after firing Flip Saunders.

Will he be able to save the Timberwolves? Um… not this time, I guess. The team lacks depth and experience, in my opinion.

Well, what do you think?

  • All of these coach firings are making me sad. And a bit sick to my stomach. If nothing else, could they not wait until after the holidays?

  • Hi Carolyn,

Well, unfortunately a happy holidays is certainly not in the NBA club owners’ mind. The owners have a lot of stake in their clubs – it’s their game, not you and I :)

Fortunately, those jobless NBA coaches are millionaires – they were paid millions of dollar a year… So I guess they can enjoy the holiday with less grievance :)
