Top 10 NBA Players Salaries 2008-2009 Season

Kevin Garnett
Forget today’s financial crisis.

NBA players are among the highest paid sportsmen in the world, thanks to the ever-increasing popularity of basketball worldwide. Crisis? What crisis?

Have you ever wondered who’s who in the list of the highest salaried NBA players this season? Check out these Top 10 salaries in 2008-2009 season, courtesy of DraftExpress.com:

Top 10 highest salaried NBA players

  1. Kevin Garnett (Boston Celtics, forward): $24,751,934
  2. Jermaine O’Neal (Toronto Raptors, forward/center): $21,372,000
  3. Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks, guard): $21,372,000
  4. Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers, guard): $21,262,500
  5. Tracy MacGrady (Houston Rockets, guard): $21,126,874
  6. Stephon Marbury (New York Knicks, guard): $20,840,625 *
  7. Allen Iverson (Detroit Pistons, guard): $20,840,625
  8. Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs, forward/center): $20,598,704
  9. Shaquille O’Neal (Phoenix Suns, center): $20,000,000 **
  10. Steve Francis (Houston Rockets, guard): $18,364,480 ***

Notes:

* He is the sixth highest paid NBA players, but the Knicks put him on DNP list. I guess this proves again and again that, despite being highly paid, NBA players won’t guaranteed adequate playing time.

** Another source, InsideHoops.com, reports that Shaq receive $21,000,000. But who cares? It’s only a 5% difference :P

*** Another source, InsideHoops.com, reports that Steve is not even in their Top 20 list. I checked on NBA.com, he’s still in the Rockets roster – is he waived?

  • Big Money Dunkadelics of the NBA. Who says you’ve got to go to college to become a big success. 4 of the 10 players on the Highest Paid list didn’t even attend college (KG, Jermaine O’Neal, Kobe, T-Mac). Iverson and J. Kidd played 2-years of college. Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury played only 1-year of major college basketball. Francis was a junior-college transfer to Marryland and played 1-year for the Terps before he was the 2nd overall pick in 1999. Shaq played 3-years at LSU and Tim Duncan is the only 4-year player on the Top 10 Highest Paid list. He and Shaq are tied with the most NBA Championships 4.
